Our Story

Founded in 1998 around a single long table

Plato Academy began with eleven students, three teachers and a conviction: that children learn best when they are asked real questions and trusted to answer them. The first classes met around a single long table in a rented hall, reading Homer aloud and arguing about what courage really means.

Today the Academy serves more than four hundred students across three schools. The table is larger, the library has a colonnade and the laboratories are new, but the conversation has not changed. Our teachers still begin with wonder, and our students still leave knowing how to think, how to listen and how to begin.

Our Values

Four ideas that shape everything we do

Drawn from the Greek tradition and tested in the classroom, these values guide our teaching, our community and our expectations.

Paideia

Education of the whole person

We educate the mind, the character and the imagination together, never one at the expense of another.

Philia

Friendship and community

Learning is a shared adventure. We build a community where students and teachers know and care for one another.

Techne

Craft and skill

Excellence is a habit. Students practise their craft patiently, from sentences and equations to music and sport.

Eudaimonia

A life well lived

We measure success by the people our students become: curious, kind and capable of lasting contribution.

Student and Parent Voices

Words from our community

Families, students and alumni describe what it feels like to belong to Plato Academy.

Parent

Plato Academy gave our daughter something rare: the confidence to ask why. She comes home eager to read, to debate and to understand — and she is kind to everyone she meets.

Maria Evangelou

Parent of a Grade 6 student

Student

Our teachers treat us as thinkers, not test-takers. The Socratic seminars changed how I listen, how I argue and how I change my mind.

Alumni

The Academy taught me how to learn, which turned out to matter more than anything I memorised. I still use those habits every day at university.
